A Big Thank You to Damian!!!!
At our AGM on Tuesday night, we marked the end of an era as Damian known to many as (Damo) officially stepped down as Pipe Major after nine incredible years of service and leadership. As many of you know, Damian is relocating to Palmerston North in January, but we’re thrilled that he’s not going far — he will remain as Pipe Sergeant for the rest of the year to support our new Pipe Major, Andrew Graham, and has also generously agreed to take on the role of Band Secretary.
To acknowledge Damian’s dedication, the band presented him with his band kilt to keep — a token of our immense gratitude. It was a deeply emotional moment for all of us, and yes… a box of tissues did get passed around.
Many pipers stood up to personally thank Damian for the unwavering support, encouragement, and inspiration he’s given them over the years. His leadership has left a lasting mark on the band and all who’ve played under him.
We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the many pipe majors and band leaders from across the country who mentored and guided Damian in his early years — especially Richard Addison, Warren Aitken, Ben McLaughlin and Davey Welsh (Davey being Damian’s tutor for 8 years). Your support helped shape Damian into the leader he became, and we are incredibly grateful.
Damian — thank you for everything. We wish you all the very best for your move and the exciting new chapter ahead. We’re so lucky you’re staying on as part of the team.
